James Downar is a Professor in the Division of Palliative Care, Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He holds the position of Clinical Research Chair in Palliative and End of Life Care. His involvement in critical care and palliative medicine highlights his commitment to improving patient outcomes in complex medical situations. As a staff physician at the Ottawa Hospital and an investigator at the Bruyère Research Institute, Professor Downar engages in clinical and translational research that addresses key challenges in palliative care. His educational background includes a medical degree and a Master of Health Science, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.
