Biography

James Durrant joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford in 2025 to provide research leadership in the grand challenge of Sustainable Chemistry. He previously served as Director of Imperial's Centre for Processable Electronics and led the Sêr Cymru Solar Initiative at the University of Swansea. In 2017, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and was appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 2022 for his services to photochemistry and solar energy research. His research focuses on developing new chemical approaches for solar energy conversion, aiming to harness solar energy to produce electricity through photovoltaics and molecular fuels, such as hydrogen.
