Biography

James R. Engstrom is currently a Professor in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University. He is a member of the Graduate Field in Chemistry and Chemical Biology since 2002. Professor Engstrom has received numerous awards, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1991 and Lilly Endowment Teaching Fellowship in 1995, along with two College of Engineering Teaching Awards. In 2005, he was made a Fellow of the American Vacuum Society. Between 1998 and 2001, he worked at Symyx Technologies as Vice President of high-throughput screening of electronic materials. His research focuses on controlling thin film nucleation for nanoscale electronics using atomic layer deposition techniques, organic thin film electronics employing in situ real-time X-ray synchrotron radiation, and modifying the processing of inorganic nanocrystalline materials.
