Biography

James Fearon is the Theodore Frances Geballe Professor in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University and a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2012 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, elected in 2002. His research interests include civil interstate war, ethnic conflict, political economy, and democratic accountability. Fearon previously served as Chair of the Department of Political Science at Stanford from 2007 to 2010. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Karl Deutsch Award from the International Studies Association in 1999 and the Heinz Eulau Award from the American Political Science Review in 1997. Additionally, he has contributed to various boards and committees, reflecting his deep commitment to the field of political science. Fearon holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an A.B. from Harvard University.
