Biography

James Robert Ficke, MD, is the Robert A. Robinson Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and serves as the Director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of complex foot and ankle conditions, lower extremity trauma, and amputees. After receiving his M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center and fellowships in trauma and foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Ficke has held prominent roles, including Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and has served as a senior advisor to the U.S. Army Surgeon General on orthopedic injuries. Throughout his career, he has focused on amputation and limb salvage research, as well as post-traumatic arthritis. Dr. Ficke has received numerous accolades for his surgical and educational skills, including military decorations and national awards for his leadership in orthopedic surgery.
