Biography

Jim Foley is a prominent figure in the fields of Computer Graphics and Human-Computer Interaction. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1964, followed by a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1965, and a Ph.D. in 1969. He began his professional career as the CEO of Yamacraw, Georgia's economic development initiative. Before that, he served as the CEO and Chairman of Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Center America, overseeing Mitsubishi's corporate research and development operations in North America, and was the Director of MERL, the Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratory. From 1991 to 1996, he was the founding director of the Graphics, Visualization, and Usability Center at the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, which gained recognition as the top center in its field according to Newsweek. Dr. Foley has also held faculty positions at the University of North Carolina and the George Washington University, where he became the Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research interests include Computer Graphics, Information Visualization, Human-Computer Interaction, and R&D Management.
