Biography

James H. Garvin, MD, PhD, is a board-certified pediatric hematologist-oncologist who specializes in the care of children and adolescents with brain tumors. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the CUMC Head Start Program, focusing on radiation-sparing intensive chemotherapy for infants and young children diagnosed with brain tumors. Dr. Garvin is also the principal investigator for the Children's Oncology Group protocol focused on childhood ependymoma, and offers innovative therapies for recurrent brain tumors through the Developmental Therapeutics Program of COG. In addition, he established a pediatric bone marrow transplant program and remains an active member of the Bone Marrow Transplant group. His particular research interests include autologous and allogeneic transplants for brain tumors and metabolic disorders, as well as supportive care for BMT patients. His interest in pediatric hematology/oncology research began during medical school in the laboratory of a pediatric hematologist. Dr. Garvin is a member of several professional societies within the field.
