Biography

James Hodkinson is a Reader in German at the University of Warwick. He specializes in German culture from the eighteenth century to the present, with particular research interests in Islam, religion, post-secular modernity, Romanticism, and sound studies. With two decades of experience at Warwick, he teaches a wide range of undergraduate courses and supervises research at the MA, PhD, and post-doctoral levels. He has held several key leadership roles in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, including as Head of German Studies and Director of Recruitment and Admissions. James is a recognized practitioner in public engagement with a focus on innovative research methodologies. He co-founded the German Pop Music Studies network and has led multiple community engagement projects. His work has received various accolades, and he has served as an external examiner for German Studies and Translation Studies at multiple UK universities. James is currently working on a book project titled 'German-Islamic Kinships' and is actively involved in supervising PhD researchers in contemporary anglophone fiction and the music pedagogy of Clara Schumann.
