Biography

James Jepson attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Imperial College London and later completed a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He undertook post-doctoral research at Brown University, focusing on the behavioral roles of RNA editing in Drosophila, and subsequently conducted research at Thomas Jefferson University where he studied the genetic basis of circadian rhythms and sleep. In 2014, he started his own laboratory at University College London within the Queen Square Institute of Neurology. His lab has produced a range of studies on novel disease models, publishing in prestigious journals including Cell Reports, Brain, and Movement Disorders, and exploring the neurogenetic basis of sleep in Drosophila through reputable outlets such as eLife, Current Biology, and Scientific Reports. Jepson received the MRC New Investigator Award in 2017, was promoted to Principal Research Fellow in 2019, and was awarded the MRC Senior Non-Clinical Fellowship to study the mechanistic basis of dystonia in 2021. He was promoted to Professor of Neurogenetics in 2022.
