Professor Dr. James Kasting

Biography

James Kasting is an Emeritus Atherton Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in 1979. His research has significantly contributed to our understanding of atmospheric evolution and planetary atmospheres, with a particular focus on paleoclimates. Kasting's work combines theoretical insights with empirical data to explore the conditions required for habitability on exoplanets and the history of Earth's climate. He has published extensively on topics related to the evolution of the Earth's atmosphere and the geological and biological implications of climate change over geological timescales.
