Biography

James B. Kelly holds a PhD in Political Science from McGill University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. He has held visiting appointments at McGill University and served as the Seagram Chair in Canadian Studies at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. In 2008, he was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Melbourne's Centre for Comparative Constitutional Studies. His research, which has received funding from external granting agencies such as the SSHRC and FQRSC, focuses on the judicialization of politics in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, particularly regarding parliamentary rights bills. Kelly has authored and co-authored five books, including 'Governing Charter' and the forthcoming 'Constraining Court: Judicial Power in the Charter Era', which are significant contributions to public policy discourse. He has also served as Co-editor and Assistant Editor for the Canadian Journal of Political Science and held multiple administrative roles in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University. Kelly has guest lectured at various prestigious institutions and collaborated on several research projects including one focusing on human rights protection in Northern Ireland.
