Professor Dr. James Lloyd Hughes

Biography

James Lloyd-Hughes is a full Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick, where he has been based since 2013. His research group employs ultrafast spectroscopy techniques to investigate the physics of novel materials on short time scales, specifically in the picosecond range. The group develops sources and detectors for terahertz radiation and is closely associated with the Warwick Centre for Ultrafast Spectroscopy, utilizing a range of ultrafast spectroscopy facilities that span UV, visible, IR, and THz light. Professor Lloyd-Hughes has also held several administrative roles, including Undergraduate Admissions Tutor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department. He was an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellow from 2009 to 2014 at the University of Oxford and has completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich. Professor Lloyd-Hughes has contributed significantly to the field through his numerous publications, focusing on areas such as terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, nonlinear THz spectroscopy, and the study of semiconductors and nanomaterials.
