James Maverick joined the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music in 2021 as a lecturer in Collaborative Piano. In this role, he teaches vocal accompanying and coaches singers. Prior to this, he served as the Assistant Chorus Master for the Cincinnati Opera in 2020, where he prepared productions of operas such as Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, Pirates of Penzance, and Il barbiere di Siviglia. He has collaborated frequently with the Austin Opera as a pianist for productions including Pagliacci, Manchurian Candidate, and Verdi's Requiem, and he was the music director for the company's LatinX Residency workshop. Maverick also prepared workshops for new operas as part of Cincinnati's Opera Fusion: New Works program and Opera Philadelphia. He was a chorus master and keyboardist for productions at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City from 2017 to 2019 and served on the coaching faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. He was previously a fellow of the Wolf Trap Opera, the Merola Opera Program, and the Tanglewood Music Center. He holds degrees in piano performance, choral conducting, and collaborative piano from Lawrence University and Indiana University.
