Biography

James C. Melville, DDS, is a professor at the Bernard Gloria Pepper Katz Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UTHealth School of Dentistry. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2005 and completed a general practice residency at the University of California, San Francisco in 2006. He further pursued an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, completing it in 2012, followed by fellowships in oral, head, neck oncology, microvascular reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. In 2017, he was appointed as the UT OMS internship director. Dr. Melville is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. He received the Faculty Educator Development Award (FEDA) in 2019 from the AAOMS and the AAOMS Advocacy Challenge Coin in 2020. He authored a Springer textbook on maxillofacial reconstruction and has contributed to numerous texts and over 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a reviewer for several leading journals in his field.
