Biography

Dr. James Oliver studied BA Mathematics, MSc Mathematical Modelling, and Numerical Analysis at St Anne's College, Oxford, earning his D.Phil in Applied Mathematics from 1994 to 2001. He completed postdoctoral research from 2001 to 2007 in the Division of Applied Mathematics and Bioengineering Group at the University of Nottingham, where he held the EPSRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Mathematics from 2004 to 2007, along with a complementary Research Fellowship from the Royal Commission Exhibition 1851 from 2004 to 2006. In 2007, he returned to Oxford to take up a University Research Lectureship in Applied Mathematics, followed by a University Lectureship and association with Jesus College in 2008. His teaching specialties include Physical Applied Mathematics and a variety of mathematical topics for undergraduate students. Dr. Oliver's research focuses on fluid dynamics with particular emphasis on asymptotic methods and free moving boundary problems related to industry, engineering, and biology. His research topics encompass violent surface motion, thin-film flows, droplet evaporation, and cellular dynamics.
