James Peebles is a prominent physicist born in St. Boniface, Canada. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Honors) from the University of Manitoba in 1958 before pursuing a doctorate at Princeton University, where he conducted research in cosmology and taught physics. With a notable career focused on the prediction of the cosmic microwave background radiation, Peebles has contributed significantly to understanding galaxy formation and clustering in the universe. His work led to recognizing the existence of the Big Bang and has been fundamental in the fields of cosmology and astrophysics.
