Biography

James T. Pokines is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, also obtaining an M.A. and B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology from the same institution and Cornell University, respectively. His expertise lies in forensic anthropology, with extensive experience analyzing unknown bone cases as an Office Chief Medical Examiner in Massachusetts. Additionally, he has over twelve years as a Forensic Anthropologist Manager at the Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii. Dr. Pokines has participated in excavation projects in 18 countries, including studies of modern forensic scenes, Tiwanaku sites in Bolivia, classical sites in Egypt, and Paleolithic sites across Europe and the Middle East. His ongoing research focuses on obtaining insights into the effects of environmental factors on bones and the methodology involved in recovering remains. He has served as Vice President of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
