Biography

James Raymer joined Australian National University (ANU) in 2013 after serving as a Vice Chancellor’s Strategic Appointment in Demography at the University of Southampton. He led the successful transition of the Australian Demographic Social Research Institute to the School of Demography and completed his term as Head of the School at the end of 2016. Over his career, he has published more than 80 works, including journal articles in top journals related to demography, regional science, geography, and statistics. Raymer has also received consultancy funds from the European Commission and various Australian government agencies, focusing on improving migration statistics and population estimates. He teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses on migration and population analysis, and his research interests lie in the spatial demographic processes and their influence on migration patterns and population changes.
