Biography

James Rebitzer is a Professor Emeritus at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where he specializes in Markets, Public Policy, and Law, with a focus on organizational economics and behavioral issues in human resource systems. His recent research primarily addresses organizational issues within the healthcare system. He served as the founding chair of the Markets, Public Policy, and Law Department from 2009 to 2018, and held a courtesy appointment as a Professor of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences. Before joining Boston University in August 2009, he was the Mannix Professor of Health Care Finance and the Chair of the Economics Department at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management. He has previous academic experience as an Assistant and Associate Professor at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and as an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his teaching, he is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA). Rebitzer has published extensively in prominent academic journals and has received several awards for his research, including the Health Care Research Award and the Kenneth J. Arrow Award. He earned his PhD from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1985.
