Dr. James Roberts

Biography

James W. Roberts is a Professor of Economics at Duke University, where he has served since 2019 and currently also holds the position of Chair in the Economics Department. His research focuses on the intersection of market structures in the healthcare industry and the economic implications of regulatory practices. His recent publications include works on topics such as medical director compensation within dialysis, the regulation of ambulance taxis, and disparities in transplant education for patients starting dialysis. Additionally, Roberts has received various grants for research into healthcare price transparency and the integration of specialty physician practices with private equity. He completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in 2009 and has an MA and BA from Northwestern and Davidson College, respectively. Roberts is recognized for his contributions to the field and actively engages in discussions around healthcare fraud and the economic impacts of healthcare policies.
