Biography

James K. Rowe is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. He completed his PhD in Politics in 2009 at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His interdisciplinary research program is motivated by a desire to understand and strengthen social movements that work towards social and ecological justice. James's work spans the main areas of political theory, social movement strategy, and political economy, aiming to develop an integrated and critical understanding of the challenges faced by social movements. He has authored the book 'Radical Mindfulness' and his research has been published in various academic journals, including Arrow, BC Studies, BioScience, Journal of Human Rights and the Environment, New Political Science, Socialist Studies, Political Economy, and Theory & Event. Additionally, his public writings have appeared in outlets such as Conversation, Corporate Knights, Jacobin, Lion’s Roar, openDemocracy, Truthout, Tyee, Vancouver Sun, and National Observer Waging Nonviolence.
