James Richard Shealy is an Emeritus Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. He earned his doctorate in 1983, during which time he held a dual appointment as a research associate at Cornell and as a principal staff scientist at General Electric. In 1983, he co-founded and chaired a biennial international workshop on OMVPE (organometallic vapor phase epitaxy), a technique used for growing semiconductor crystals. Joining the faculty in 1987, Shealy has been actively involved in the development of Cornell’s laboratory research focused on compound semiconductor materials and related graduate courses. He has been associated with several significant initiatives, including the National Nanofabrication Facility, the Joint Services Electronics Program, and the DARPA Optoelectronics Technology Center. His research encompasses various areas including compound semiconductor materials, ultra-high-speed transistors, advanced crystal-growth techniques, and optoelectronic materials. He also teaches courses focused on silicon device fundamentals and micro theory device applications.
