Biography

James C. Spindler holds the Mark L. Hart, Jr. Endowed Chair in Corporate Securities Law at the University of Texas School of Law. His teaching areas include securities regulation, capital markets, corporate law, tax, and corporate finance. Professor Spindler's research focuses on securities disclosure, trading, corporate fraud, corporate governance, and executive compensation and has been published in journals such as the Journal of Legal Studies and the American Law & Economics Review. He has served as an expert witness on topics related to securities fraud, banking, corporate governance, fiduciary duties, and commercial contracts. Prior to his academic career, he practiced law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York and Hong Kong, specializing in securities and banking. He previously taught at the University of Southern California. Professor Spindler earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and A.B. in Political Economy from Princeton University.
