Biography

James (Jim) H. Tiessen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Management Studies and the Director of the Master of Health Administration (Community Care) program at Toronto Metropolitan University. He obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Alberta, his M.Sc. from Guelph, and his Ph.D. from York University’s Schulich School of Business. Tiessen has spent ten years as a faculty member at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University before joining Ryerson in 2008. Over his career, he has served as an MBA Director and has a background working in Japan with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). His research has been published in notable journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing, International Marketing Review, and the Canadian Journal of Administrative Studies. Additionally, he has held the position of President of the Japan Studies Association Canada and has been a visiting Scholar at the Asian Institute, Munk Centre of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, as well as a visiting research fellow at the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Tiessen's research interests delve into Canadian-Japanese healthcare, particularly focusing on community care. He also teaches courses on comparative healthcare policy and management research methods.
