Dr. Jamie Jones

Biography

Jamie Jones serves as the Associate Professor of Practice in Management at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, and as the Director of Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship. With a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University, he has focused his career on fostering entrepreneurship in historically marginalized communities. Jones previously held the position of Executive Director at the Fuqua Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, where he developed initiatives such as FoundHER, a pitch competition for Black founders. He teaches courses that span new venture formation and execution, including New Venture Discovery and New Venture Development. Before joining Duke, he was the Executive Director of the Liu Idea Lab for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Rice University, where he developed programs and taught courses in startups and investment. He is also a co-founder of an investment firm focused on positive social and environmental impacts. His work has encompassed various sectors, including sanitation, energy, agriculture, and health, often integrating design thinking and Lean Startup methodologies. Throughout his career, he has worked across the globe in regions such as India, East and West Africa, and Latin America, contributing to ventures that create both financial and social returns.
