Dr. Jamie Larkin

Biography

Jamie Larkin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries at the University of Warwick. He completed his Ph.D. at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, focusing on the historical development of commercial activity in the UK museum heritage sector. His research includes the Mapping Museums project, where he collaborated with scholars in museum studies and computer science to understand trends in the independent museum sector from 1960 to 2020. His research continued during the pandemic, examining how the museum sector navigated the challenges associated with COVID-19. Between 2018 and 2023, he served as an Assistant Professor at Chapman University in Southern California, where he helped to create an academic program for Creative Cultural Industries. Larkin is currently completing a monograph titled 'Consuming Culture: History Museum Merchandizing,' which will be published by Routledge. His research interests focus on museums' response to the climate crisis, exploring themes such as sustainability, social justice, and alternative museologies. He is a Board Member of the International Committee on Museums Sustainable Development and is involved in creative projects that bridge museums and technology. His scholarly interests include museum heritage studies, cultural policy, and the impact of museums on social and economic issues. Larkin has published numerous articles on these topics in various journals.
