Biography

Jamie Lewis graduated from the University of Bristol in 2010 with an MSci in Archaeological Sciences and continued his studies, completing a PhD in Earth Sciences in 2015. His doctoral research focused on strontium diagenesis in archaeological enamel, utilizing strontium isotope methods to investigate the mobility of ancient populations and the extent of diagenetic alteration. He has worked in industry as a research development scientist at Thermo-Fisher Scientific, where he was part of a team that developed a prototype collision cell MC-ICPMS named Proteus. Returning to Bristol, he took a position within the Organic Geochemistry Unit and the Bristol Isotope Group, where he employs innovative geochemical isotopic techniques to understand past environments and lifestyles. His research includes stable strontium isotope ratio investigations to assess ancient diets, with a focus on analytical techniques for measuring geochemical proxies. Jamie's ongoing research includes studying ancient human subsistence practices using stable isotope techniques.
