Jamie Penner is an instructor at the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Her clinical experience began as a registered nurse in the Head Neck Oncology Inpatient Unit at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. After obtaining her Master of Nursing degree, she worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Head & Neck Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba, supporting patients and families across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Currently, she is pursuing doctoral studies, focusing her research on the development of a pilot randomized controlled trial for a home-based physical activity intervention aimed at promoting health among family caregivers of individuals with advanced cancer. Jamie teaches undergraduate courses in Supportive Palliative Care and Family Health, as well as an interdisciplinary course she co-developed on Family Caregiving Across the Lifespan. Her research is centered on collaborating with communities to improve the caregiving experience and promoting the health and wellbeing of family caregivers. Additionally, she is involved in community-based experiential learning initiatives to enhance family caregiving literacy for healthcare students and educators, while also supporting clinical education for nursing students. Jamie's work, funded by organizations such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, has been presented and published both locally and internationally.
