Dr. Jamie Penner

Biography

Jamie Penner is an instructor at the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Her clinical journey began as a registered nurse in the Head and Neck Oncology Inpatient Unit at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg. After earning her Master of Nursing degree, she became a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Head & Neck Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba, providing support across various healthcare settings. Currently, Jamie is pursuing her PhD at McGill University, focusing on developing a pilot randomized controlled trial for a home-based physical activity intervention aimed at enhancing the health of family caregivers of individuals with advanced cancer. Jamie teaches undergraduate nursing courses in Supportive Palliative Care and Family Health. Her scholarly work emphasizes collaboration with communities to improve caregiving experiences and promote the wellness of family caregivers. This research informs educational strategies for clinical nursing education, enhancing the palliative care approach. Jamie has received funding from reputable organizations such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation, with her research disseminated at various local, national, and international conferences.
