Biography

Jamie Shenk is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Warwick's Department of Sociology. She previously served as a Democracy Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Shenk holds a DPhil in Sociology and an MSc in Latin American Studies from the University of Oxford, and a BA in History focused on Modern Latin America from Princeton University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of political sociology, armed conflict, social movements, and participatory democracy, with a primary regional focus on Latin America. Shenk's current book project investigates how the legacies of armed conflict influence environmental movements and the contestation of large-scale extractive projects in Colombia. She explores topics such as environmental conflict, peacebuilding, state repression, business human rights, and transitional justice, employing a multi-method approach that combines quantitative analysis with extensive field research.
