Dr. Jamie Skidmore

Biography

Jamie Skidmore is a full professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in Theatre and Drama. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, as well as a Masters and an Honours Bachelor’s degree from the same institution and Queen’s University respectively. His professional experience is complemented by a postdoctoral research fellowship in India. Skidmore’s artistic direction has significantly influenced many festivals, particularly the Isle aux Morts Theatre Festival, of which he is the Artistic Director. He has conducted extensive research in Newfoundland Theatre and puppetry, contributing numerous scholarly articles and creative works to the field. His involvement in many productions highlights his versatility, having acted as writer, director, and designer across various theatre genres, focusing on contemporary issues in performance and design. Skidmore has presented at multiple conferences globally, discussing innovative themes in theatre practices and the intersection of media and performance. His teaching includes courses such as Film, Modern Canadian Drama, and Contemporary British Drama, impacting the next generation of theatre artists and scholars. His accolades include several awards and recognitions for his contributions to theatre production and design, evidencing his commitment to fostering theatrical arts in Newfoundland and beyond.
