Jamie is a geomorphologist with particular interests in the nature and impacts of Quaternary environmental change in the Mediterranean region and the Nile basin. A significant portion of his work takes place in close collaboration with archaeologists, focusing on the theoretical and practical interface between geography, geoscience, and archaeology. Currently, Jamie is involved in projects in the Nile Valley of Northern Sudan, collaborating with the British Museum to explore the relationship between human activity and environmental change over the past 10,000 years, funded by the Australian Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust. Jamie emphasizes public outreach and has worked closely with colleagues at the Manchester Museum on the Ancient Worlds galleries, which opened in late 2012. He is the editor of the Geoarchaeology: International Journal since 2007 and has received a personal chair in Physical Geography at the University of Manchester. Jamie's research interests extend into the development of geochronologies using OSL, radiocarbon, and uranium series techniques to analyze sedimentary archives across various timescales, and he applies sediment sourcing methods to enhance the understanding of past geomorphological systems. This extensive work spans diverse geomorphological environments within the Mediterranean and Nile basin that contain rich records of long-term environmental change.
Includes MSc in Advanced Electrical Power Systems and MSc in Communications and Signal Processing.
