Professor Dr. Jamison Colburn

Biography

Professor Colburn is a leading scholar in environmental and natural resources law. He has published over thirty articles and book chapters focusing on law, environmental assessment, habitat protection for at-risk species, and jurisdiction over water disputes. His work routinely examines the legal system’s interaction with science and the use (and misuse) of scientific information in legal contexts. Prior to his academic career, he served as Assistant Regional Counsel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and was a Trustee of the Connecticut River Watershed Council. Prof. Colburn has provided comments on proposed changes to the Clean Water Act’s jurisdictional definitions of “waters of the United States” in 2023. He has also been quoted in articles discussing legal implications surrounding significant legal cases, such as SpaceX's lawsuit involving Musk’s Texas launch plans.
