Biography

Jan is a PhD student at ETH Zurich in the Chair of Development Economics. His research examines policies that promote socio-economic development through Global Value Chains (GVCs), currently focusing on interventions to reduce hazardous child labor in Ghana's cocoa industry. Before starting his PhD, Jan worked as a research assistant at the University of St. Gallen, where he was involved in projects related to index-based livestock insurance (IBLI) in Kenya and tracking global activities using machine learning. He has also worked for the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Bern and the economic think tank Avenir Suisse in Zurich. Jan holds a Master of Science in Economic Policy from King's College London and a Bachelor's degree in Business Economics from the University of Zurich.
