Dr. Jan Detand

Biography

Jan Detand is a full professor and head of the research group design.nexus at Ghent University. His research primarily focuses on Design & Engineering in Industry 5.0, especially in context-changing production environments and Medical Product Design. He obtained his Master’s degree in Electromechanics from Ghent University in 1986 and completed his PhD at the Catholic University of Louvain in 1993 with a thesis on 'A Computer-Aided Process Planning System Generates Non-Linear Process Plans.' In 1996, he became a professor at Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen (HOWEST) specializing in Industrial Design Engineering. In 2013, the engineering department of HOWEST was integrated into the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University, continuing his impactful work in product development and engineering.
