Biography

Jan Froitzheim is a Professor of Energy Materials in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. His main research interest lies in high-temperature corrosion, focusing on metallic materials used in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). Fuel Cell technology facilitates efficient electricity production compared to existing technologies. SOFCs are a specific type of fuel cell that operates at high temperatures ranging from 600 to 1000°C. Jan primarily works with Fe-22%Cr steels that have been specifically developed for SOFC applications. His research concentrates on investigating the effect of nano-coatings, which are approximately 0.00001mm thick, on the corrosion behavior of these steels. By selecting the appropriate coating, it is possible to enhance the fuel cell's lifetime and improve significant surface properties of steel. His research is conducted within the framework of several Swedish, Nordic, and EU projects in close cooperation with companies such as Sandvik Materials Technology and Topsoe Fuel Cells. Additionally, Jan is actively supervising PhD students at the moment.
