Jan Hein Furnée is a professor of European Cultural History at Radboud University. His research focuses on the history of urban leisure culture, consumer culture, tourism, and cultural policy in the Netherlands and Western Europe from 1800 onwards. Furnée studied history at the University of Groningen, where he obtained his PhD. He has previously worked as a lecturer in the Theater, Film, and Television Studies program at Utrecht University and held the position of Assistant Professor of Modern History at the University of Amsterdam from 2005 to 2015. Additionally, he has held various roles in editorial and leadership capacities, including as chair of the KNHG (Royal Dutch Historical Association) and the Huizinga Institute, the national research school for cultural history.
