Biography

Jan Grahn is a Full Professor at Chalmers University, leading the Terahertz Millimetre Wave Laboratory in the fields of microtechnology and nanoscience. His research focuses on low-noise semiconductor devices, aiming to break the current sensitivity limits of transistor-based amplifiers in the microwave and millimeterwave range. His team has demonstrated that certain transistors can reach noise levels at the quantum noise limit. His work involves high-electron mobility transistors (InP HEMT) utilizing InAlAs-InGaAs heterojunctions and addresses various aspects including material science, device physics, electrical modeling, and microwave amplifier design for high-frequency measurements. The implications of his research extend to quantum computing, radio astronomy, and climate satellite applications. Additionally, he has established Low Noise Factory AB to deliver amplifier products to a global quantum group. Grahn has taught courses in Electrical Circuits and Systems Engineering at the B.Sc. level from 2020 to 2025, alongside supervising Ph.D. courses on High-Speed Transistors for two decades.
