Biography

Jan C. Grutters studied Medicine at the University of Nijmegen and trained in Respiratory Medicine at St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein and the University Medical Center Utrecht, Netherlands. In 2001, he was awarded the ERS Research Fellowship at the Imperial College Royal Brompton Hospital in London, resulting in a thesis focused on 'Genetic polymorphisms and phenotypes of sarcoidosis'. Since 2002, he has worked as a pulmonologist at St. Antonius Hospital, where he is the head of the Interstitial Lung Diseases Center of Excellence and a member of the Lung Transplant Team at UMC Utrecht. From 2009 to 2011, he served as the head of training in Pulmonology & Tuberculosis at St. Antonius Hospital. In 2010, he became a Professor of Interstitial Lung Disease at the University of Utrecht. His research focuses on genetics, biomarkers, and novel therapies for progressive lung fibrosis, sarcoidosis, autoimmune conditions, and ultra-rare interstitial lung diseases.
