Dr. Jan Komorowski

Biography

Jan Komorowski is an international leader in the area of Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences. His research focuses on modeling biological systems using large genomic data, machine learning, and statistical methods. Central to his work are models of complex regulatory mechanisms that change in response to genetic and environmental factors. Komorowski has pioneered applications of rule-based modeling using rough sets and introduced the concept of rule networks. He has an extensive publication record in notable journals such as Nature Genetics and Genome Research, and is well-cited in bioinformatics, with over 7,405 citations in Web of Science and 14,592 in Google Scholar. His academic qualifications include an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Warsaw, Poland, and a PhD in Computer Science from Linköping University, Sweden. With a career path that includes positions such as Assistant Professor at Harvard, Adjunct Professor at MIT, and Full Professor in Computer Science at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim, Norway, Komorowski currently serves as the Senior Professor of Bioinformatics at Uppsala University. His honors include the Kurt Mothes Visiting Professorship at Martin Luther University Halle in Germany and a prestigious NIH award aimed at developing computational models for immune protection in SIV/HIV vaccines.
