Dr. Jan Krause

Biography

Jan Krause is a coordinator at the Topoi Excellence Cluster, focusing on the research area of Spatial Knowledge in Ancient Civilizations. He coordinates the graduate program in Landscape Archaeology at the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies, affiliated with Freie Universität Berlin. His areas of expertise include climate modeling in relation to ancient societies, the interaction patterns between hunter-gatherer and sedentary groups, and the archaeological study of significant sites such as Göbekli Tepe. Krause has actively organized and participated in numerous workshops and lectures aimed at enhancing understanding in ethnoarchaeological methods and experimental studies. He has contributed to the academic community through a range of scholarly engagements since 2008. His leadership in the Topoi initiatives has been instrumental in advancing interdisciplinary research in ancient studies, fostering collaboration among scholars dedicated to unraveling the complexities of ancient civilizations through innovative approaches in archaeological research.
