Biography

Jan Rotmans, born in 1961, is a prominent figure in the field of Integrated Assessment (IA) and has extensive experience in IA modeling, scenario-building, uncertainty management, and transition management. Over the past twenty years, he has led a variety of innovative projects related to climate change, global change, and sustainable development transitions involving system innovations. He is the founder and director of the International Centre for Integrative Studies (ICIS) at Maastricht University, established in 1998. As a full professor of Transitions and Transition Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2004, he founded the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT). Jan is the vice-president of the Integrated Assessment Society (TIAS) and has established the Dutch Knowledge Network on System Innovations and Transitions (KSI). An accomplished author, he has founded scientific journals in the realm of Environmental Modeling and Integrated Assessment and has published ten books and over 150 peer-reviewed articles spanning topics such as environment, sustainability, governance, and transitions in system innovations.
