Biography

Jan Seidel is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He received his doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, in 2005. Before joining UNSW in 2012, he held positions at the University of California, Berkeley, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and was a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers with more than 16,000 citations and an h-index of 50. His research focuses on advanced scanning probe microscopy and the physical properties of novel materials, particularly transition-metal oxides, 2D materials, and hybrid halide perovskites. His work targets a wide range of applications in optoelectronic technology, data storage, nonvolatile memories, solar cells, and nanoelectronics. In addition to his research, he has been recognized for his contributions to supervision and mentorship, receiving multiple awards including the UNSW Outstanding Research Supervisor Award and the ARC Postgraduate Council Supervisor Award.
