Biography

Jan Toporowski is a Visiting Professor in the Economics Department of International Development at King's College London. He has previously held a professorship in Economics at SOAS University of London. His research focuses on monetary theory and policy, finance, macroeconomics, and development economics. Toporowski is also known as the literary executor for the economist Michał Kalecki. He has published two volumes on Kalecki's biography along with numerous books and articles in economics and finance. His career spans over various roles including fund management and international banking, and he has consulted for the United Nations Development Programme among other organizations. He has held visiting academic positions at the University of Cambridge and the Bank of Finland and taught at several institutions including Meiji University in Tokyo and the University of Bergamo in Italy. Toporowski's research includes monetary economics, the impact of monetary policy on capital markets and corporate finance, and he has presented original views on 'capital market inflation'. He has convened research seminars on Money and Development, initially at SOAS and currently at King’s College. He has also supervised numerous PhD students covering themes related to banking finance and monetary economics.
