Biography

Jan van den Berg is an Emeritus Professor of Cyber Security at Delft University of Technology. He completed his secondary education at Gemeentelijk Lyceum in Dordrecht in 1970 and studied mathematics and physics at TU Delft, where he received his diploma as a Mathematical Engineer in 1977. His career began with lecturing courses in mathematics and physics at various higher education institutions and a secondary school in Mozambique between 1977 and 1989. He then joined the Econometric Institute at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he focused on research in computational intelligence and combinatorial optimization. His doctoral thesis, entitled 'Neural Relaxation Dynamics,' completed in 1996, laid the foundation for his future work. He has since opted to focus on topics relating to Big Data Analytics and Cyber Security, ultimately becoming a full professor in 2013. His research interests cover a wide array of areas including complex systems, decision-making methodologies, and applications in finance and healthcare. He has been involved with executive education in Cyber Security and frequently gives guest lectures for both public and private organizations.
