Dr. Jana Kainerstorfer

Biography

Jana Kainerstorfer is a Professor with a Courtesy Appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. She received her Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Vienna in 2010. Kainerstorfer's research primarily focuses on optical imaging techniques, particularly near-infrared spectroscopy. Her expertise encompasses the development of instruments for data acquisition and analysis with a significant focus on clinical applications. Her lab, the Biophotonics Lab, is dedicated to advancing non-invasive optical imaging methods that yield biomarkers for disease diagnostics and monitoring. Kainerstorfer's work is instrumental in bridging the gap between optical imaging technology and clinical practices, emphasizing microvascular imaging and the understanding of pathophysiological conditions. She has been actively involved in interdisciplinary research, collaborating with various institutions and has made notable contributions to the field, including developments in non-invasive intracranial pressure sensing and wearable biomedical technologies.
