Biography

Jana Mokrišová is an archaeologist specializing in material culture from the western Anatolia and Greece during the Late Bronze Age to the Classical period. Her work particularly focuses on ancient mobility and connectivity, as well as the interplay of identity, technological innovation, and the transfer of technology. Her recent research has developed regional approaches to land-based movement as part of the 'Migration Making Ancient Greek World Project', collaborating with Prof. Naoíse Mac Sweeney. Additionally, she investigates technological transfer, especially regarding the role of iron, in the 'Project Sideros: Early Iron Technology Aegean', in association with Dr. Marek Verčík and Dr. Ümit Güder from Charles University, Prague. Jana earned her PhD in Classical Art and Archaeology from the University of Michigan. Prior to her position at Brown, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge and has taught at Birkbeck, University of London, and the University of Sheffield. Her primary field research is focused in western Türkiye, participating in excavation and survey projects across Greece, Italy, the Republic of Georgia, and Bulgaria.
