Biography

Jana Schwenk is a Postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. In December 2023, she defended her dissertation titled 'Beyond Party's Realm - Consequences of Variation in Candidate Selection,' exploring how inclusive candidate selection impacts voters' perceptions of political systems and candidates. Her research interests encompass intraparty democracy and party financing, with a focus on how these elements influence voters' perceptions of political institutions, as well as female representation. Jana completed her doctoral studies in Political Science with a focus on Comparative Politics at the University of Konstanz, where she also earned her Bachelor and Master degrees. Additionally, she was a visiting PhD scholar under Prof. Javier Astudillo at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in January and February 2023 and will be a visiting Postdoctoral researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles with Prof. Emilie van Haute in March and April 2024. As part of her teaching responsibilities, she instructs a course on 'Introduction to Applied Research Design and Quantitative Methods for Social Scientists' during the Fall semester and supervises students writing Bachelor and Master theses.
