Biography

Jana Silver holds a Doctorate in Teacher Education and an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. With extensive experience in the field of art education, she has served as the Field Work Coordinator for the Art Education program at Boston University and was the founder of the Art Education Program at Hampshire College. She taught for 17 years in conjunction with her role as the Art Licensure Program Supervisor at Mount Holyoke College. Dr. Silver has also taught studio art education courses at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she obtained both her MFA and Doctorate. Throughout her career, she has focused on teacher education, with interests ranging from Art Education and Arts Integration to Social Justice Education in the arts. Dr. Silver has shared her research at numerous state and national conferences and her ceramic work has been successfully sold and exhibited across the nation. She continues to explore how arts integration in higher education can serve as a vehicle for learning across disciplines.
