Biography

Professor Janaka Ruwanpura served as Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Research (International) at the University of Calgary for 11 years. A Fulbright scholar and a Professional Engineer, he has significantly contributed to the fields of construction engineering and management. He has held the Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Project Management Systems and has been the Director of Project Management since 2005. He is recognized for his leadership in developing initiatives that enhance research and education at international levels, leading efforts that secured over $57 million in research funding. He has published over 180 technical papers and is celebrated for his innovative contributions, receiving multiple national and international awards including the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award and various leadership accolades. His research interests include construction productivity improvement, automation, simulation, project management, and sustainability.
